How A 10% Switch Could Change America

“For you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”  Those are probably the most famous words ever spoken on the subject of truth…

Above, many of you will recognize the first two sentences in my newest book, How Do You Kill 11 Million People?.  For those of you...

You Wrote an Article for WHO???

Several times during the process of a new book release, the guys from our office in Nashville get together with the marketing and public relations team from Thomas Nelson Publishers.  I assume the meetings are fairly serious…unless I am there!  I do occasionally attend these meetings of the minds and actually, it is interesting to hear the hopes and plans everyone has for a particular book.

There is one moment, however, in every meeting I have attended where everyone laughs uproariously.  It’s never decided in advance who gets to say “the line” and it is usually uttered during one of...

A Message from Andy to You

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Well, it's Christmastime and another year has almost passed us by.

I don't know about you, but every year around this time I always get in a reflective mood.

Maybe it's the approaching New Year, the increased amount of family time, or the fact that I'm always forced to eat so much great food that I don't feel like doing anything that involves moving. Ha!

Anyway, I really enjoy taking just a few moments to look back at the year's highlights…and I wanted to let you know that one of the best highlights of EVERY year has...

A Christmas Story To Remind You of the Reason for the Season – “A Shining Light”

It is eleven days before Christmas as I write this and for the first time in several years, snow is forecast for Sawyerton Springs. The children, as one might expect, are thrilled about the possibility of an early Christmas vacation, but to the adults. . .snow is just a cold, messy version of a mild hurricane.

Miss Luna Myers has been organizing the emergency relief effort for the Grace Fellowship Baptist Church. She compiled a list of all the men who have four-wheel drive trucks and has asked that CB channel 72 remain open for stranded townsfolk.

Rick and Sue Carper have stocked the Rolling Store with all kinds...

The Andy Andrews Law of Inverse Proportion

Have you ever wondered if there is a connection between "this" and "that"?

I am often curious about why "happenings" that are really quite opposite seem to run in tandem.  For instance, do you sometimes seem the most tired when your kids are the most energetic?  I call this the "Andy Andrews Law of Inverse Proportion" because I see it so many times in my life.  YOU, of course, may feel free...

A Fowl Day Ends with Thanksgiving

The following blog post is Chapter 15 from Andy’s classic collection of short stories Return to Sawyerton Springs.

Everyone around the dinner table smiled as Pat Ward put the last dish in front of them. “I know it’s not much…”

The whole family laughed out loud. That statement had been made by Pat every Thanksgiving of their lives. Actually, there was enough food to feed an infantry division, but she always worried that there...

Boundaries

When I was a boy, we had a Collie named Champ. My parents were out of town when Champ was hit by a car and killed. I can still remember my tears as the lady who was staying with me helped bury our dog in the far corner of the backyard. At the time (I was about twelve) I didn’t understand how something like that could have happened.

Now, of course, I know exactly how it happened. We didn’t have a fence. Champ was allowed to roam free. And a dog without a boundary is certain to meet disaster sooner or later.

Even as fully-functioning-adult-human-beings, you and I are exactly the same: A person without...

You and I Know Bad Manners When We See Them

Actually, I would imagine most of us are so aware of our children and how they act that we can’t help but notice when an otherwise fully-formed-grown-up-person neglects to say “thank you” or “please.” Sadly, this happens a lot in our society. I don’t like it, but I do understand it. There are quite a few folks wandering around who didn’t have the benefit of the kind of parents you and I had. Or maybe they don’t have the kind of friends you and I have.

On the other hand, what I absolutely do not even remotely comprehend is the astonishing societal phenomenon of the...

Why I Stopped Reading the News

My definition of FEAR is: The misuse of one’s creative imagination.  We all know what fear does to a person’s relationships, finances, and everyday quality of life.  Why then, do I sense the national media has latched on to the very same definition, but are harnessing “the misuse of creative imagination” as a tool to increase viewership and readers?

Here is but one example…  Recently, a USA Today article headline proclaimed, “Kidnapping Dogs For Money Rises 49% This Year.”  Soon, media all over the country (including ABC...
